The LSBA donated €3,000 towards equipment for St. Gabriel’s Children’s Respite House facility.
Kate Sheahan of St. Gabriel’s centre informed us that proceeds for the facility were raised from the Association’s annual football tournament at UL. The beautifully designed six-bedroom respite house was purpose built for children who have the most challenging physical disabilities and additional complex medical needs. It is a spacious, light filled facility fitted out with specialist equipment to a standard that meets the children’s medical needs. To care for a child with complex disabilities in their own home is at the heart of what parents want, but they need support to do it and above all they need to be able to access occasional respite. Respite breaks benefit all the family but in particular the child with the disability. St. Gabriel’s respite house will provide a suitable place for these families to enable them to avail of short term, emergency and overnight respite breaks and where the children themselves will enjoy staying and socialising with friends.
